Book Blogger Confessions is a new bi-weekly meme hosted by Tiger @ All Consuming Books and Karen @ For What it's Worth Reviews.
Blogging controversies? How do you address them? Do you join the Twitter frenzy? Write a ranty post? Stay on the sidelines and hope they go away?
How do you think we should address plagiarism scandals? Bad author behavior? Negative comments on our blogs?
I am not a fan of controversy so as much as a page view raiser posting controversial posts are I don’t do them and I just sit back and wait for the storm to pass. I’m not saying I won’t read someone’s post addressing the topic of the moment but I won’t post my own, and I usually don’t comment. I’ll talk about it in private with friends sure but nothing public.
As for plagiarism scandals I applaud all bloggers who go through the effort of writing up their posts and sharing their views against plagiarism and the latest plagiarism scandals but as much as it’s great to get the word out there against it, these posts also tend to help generate traffic for the plagiarizer which indirectly helps their blog out. Some people also tend go a bit overboard and taking a stand against a plagiarizer can quickly lead to cyber bullying when people start going down the road of bashing and personal attacks. Also I believe if a blogger sincerely apologizes and makes a 150% effort to clean up their act then I think they should be forgiven for what they have done. Everyone makes mistakes and if someone acknowledges they have done so, apologizes and never does it again I think we should give them a second chance.
thanks for your comment about blogging :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome ^_^
DeleteThere are some great posts that address these scandals. I'm with you - I applaud their efforts because I've tried writing a few and they just come out emotional. I know if I ever hit publish I would end up involved in some battle myself. lol
ReplyDeleteI think our responses to some of these scandals goes way too far and do venture into cyber bullying but I don't know that I could follow someone who plagiarized anymore. That would have to be some mea culpa. If we're talking about the same case then I have to say she didn't give the same leniency to others that she was asking for and received herself.
Oh in that particular case I have to agree with you there. I agree she wasn't very sincere with her apology and I don't really think she feels she did what everyone is accusing her of but she really did.
